John S. Kinnard Selmer Style Super Tenor

Series 2  "Z- Stock" Super Soprano

Mahogany back and sides with a Western Red Cedar top creates a warm, resonant sound not typically found in a soprano size ukulele.  This soprano has excellent volume, resonance and sustain and is ideal for those that like finger-style or chord melody arrangements.  Using a 15" concert scale with our smaller soprano size body produces a very comfortable instrument to hold without sacrificing tone, volume or playability.

  • Kinnard Honduran Thin line tenor.mp33:27

The Luthier's Reserve line of Kinnard ukuleles is our top of the line collector's model.  These are custom, "one off's", that break the mold and incorporate new ideas which allow us to stretch our creativity and build a one of a kind work of art.  This "Thin-line" baritone uses an octave course on the 4th string to create what we refer to as a "stealth" 5-string.

The stealth name comes from the fact that if you look at the headstock from the front it looks like a regular 4 string baritone.  However, when you look closer you can see the octave 5th string exit the same hole in the bridge as the 4th string.  Once over the nut that string threads through the face of the headstock and is wound onto a 5th machine tuner located on the back of the headstock.  This added octave course creates sparkle, note definition, and note clarity on the bass string that can sometimes get lost in standard baritone tuning.

The side sound ports on this baritone add to the uniqueness of this instrument and provide a wonderful surround sound effect while creating a beautiful cascade design.  The appointments on this baritone celebrate our "Z-Stock" design by incorporating different aspects of the Z-stock form whether they be in the back design, tail-strip or rosette.

John S. Kinnard Thin Line Tenor

Honduran Rosewood/ Cedar

The Kinnard "Thin Line" models feature a body depth of 2" vs our normal body depth of 2-7/8".  While we originally designed this for the ergonomic aspects of the body we were pleasantly surprised at the sonic characteristics the thinner body provided.  Due to the shallower body design, the Thin Line models have a very quick response as the notes tend to leap out with a more focused voice and note clarity.  While we thought the narrower depth would result in less volume we were wrong in that assumption as there is little if any volume loss.  They sound sweet and focused while maintaining that Kinnard lush sound.

The spec's for this tenor are as follows:

Honduran back and sides

Western Red Cedar top

Z-Stock headstock

Side sound port

Adirondack bracing

Mahogany neck

Tortoise Shell binding

Ebony bridge, heel plate, fretboard and faceplate
